All communities have a future, but is that future created through intent and leadership determination or is it just the result of fate and happenstance?

Community Visioning is a strategic planning process by which people envision their community’s desired future and develop the insight, courage, and means to achieve that future.
Neu & Company has helped numerous communities (citizens working together with elected officials and civic and business leaders) to develop shared community visions and strategic plans.

Community Visioning
-- a process unique to each community

Every Community Visioning project focuses upon the concept of community as a "Living Entity." Cities and counties are living entities energized and sustained through human interaction, ideas, hopes, shared values, and concern about better futures.

What is Community Visioning?

It is the collective recognition that the future is to be achieved and managed by people thinking and working together because they care about their community.

Benefits of Community Visioning?

  • It gives people the opportunity for involvement.
  • It provides city and county officials a long-term perspective and framework for goal setting, establishing priorities, and creating policy.
  • It helps people define their values. They understand what they want for themselves, their families, and their community.
  • It provides an opportunity to reflect upon a community’s history and generate ideas for the future.
  • It creates excitement and a sense of adventure about the future.
  • It creates a sense of "we" and "we will" as the basis for establishing the relationships and commitment to get things done -- a barn-raising "can do" mentality.

Why do Community Visioning?

No community can afford to just react to change and events. Leaders need tools to "take charge" of the future.
  • Empower yourselves to create a community your citizens want.
  • Position your community to meet future needs.
  • Identify strategic priorities and initiatives to fund and accomplish.
  • Focus the community and government entities on significant results.
  • Establish criteria for resource allocations.
  • Frame tough issues.
  • Create action plans to guide and evaluate performance.

How is Community Visioning done?

It is a process of partnerships, workshops, forums, dialogues, and communications involving all elements of a community working together to forge a strategic plan for their community.
Successful Community Visioning requires careful preparation and professional facilitation to ensure the time commitments and hard work of all involved parties produce rich rewards for the future.

The Role of Neu & Company

Neu & Company assists communities in designing Community Visioning processes appropriate to their needs. Our company also provides the facilitation and consulting support required to create their visions and strategic plans for the future.

Success is a better, more rewarding future

It also is a breakthrough in "people energy" to get things done. Read what communities have done:
    Thornton, Colorado
A city that pursued a constant question, "Is there more we should be doing to ensure a quality future for our community?"

The answer -- YES! The result is a vision and a goal-driven community where council and citizens engage in a constant partnership focused on defining and achieving its community's vision for the future.
    Burnsville, Minnesota
The community's Partnerships for Tomorrow engaged every major leadership group and citizens in such a burst of community energy that 10 years of goals were achieved in a little over three years.
    Greater Willmar Area, Minnesota
A partnership of cities, the county, school districts, business and civic leaders, and engaged citizens created a Vision and Strategic Plan for a whole region.
